Burial Forests

In response to concerns over the land use of cemeteries and eco-responsibility, some companies have started promoting the idea of burial forests, forests that exist for the burial of ashes.

Each burial takes place under a designated tree without the use of an obtrusive marker. Some burial forests have an end goal of being donated and earmarks for permanent preservation once capacity has been reached. Many of these forests utilize lands found at the border of existing protected forests. Someone has the opportunity to select a large growth tree by size and age, with increasing cost for more mature selections, to serve as the natural marker of their cremation interment location.

Each tree in the forest is reserved exclusively for one person in perpetuity, with the option of additional payments for the right to add other family members under the same tree. Essentially, this option is designed to make available cremation burial plots to fund forest preservation of the lands used.
