Implementing Advance Care Planning: Looking Forward

Abstract

The need for advance care planning at the end of life is increasingly important in a more globalized and longevity focused society. Through many differing studies, advance care planning has been presented, as important preparation for the end-of-life. The implementation of advance care planning by professionals outside of the medical industry may achieve greater completion rates and lessen a future burden on the medical professional’s time. The integration of funeral directors that possess knowledge on the many aspects of end-of-life and planning would allow individuals to prepare for specific conversations with their physician and lawyer about the details of an advanced care plan that they have created with the aid of a funeral director.
